Delta A330 Returns to São Paulo After Engine Failure on Takeoff

A Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-300 (registration N813NW) experienced a left engine failure during takeoff for flight DL104 from São Paulo Guarulhos Airport to Atlanta on Sunday evening, March 29.
After receiving an alert from air traffic control about flames observed near the wing area, the crew declared an emergency and followed procedures. The aircraft returned to the departure airport and landed safely approximately 10 minutes after takeoff. No injuries were reported among the 272 passengers and 14 crew members on board.
Debris from the engine fell onto grass areas near the runway, causing a small fire that was quickly extinguished by airport firefighting teams. Post-landing inspections also identified a brief fire near the landing gear area, which was brought under control shortly afterward.
